I've got a bird question. A wattle bird keeps flying into our kitchen window, it is nesting out the front. It doesn't smash itself into the glass, it just flies into it, a lot. Last night I stood a big plastic owl in the window, does anyone know if that will be enough to stop the poor thing?

Does it completely cover the glass? If so, yes, it should do the trick.
![]() Seriously, the bird can't see the glass and must be a bit of a slow learner to keep flying into the same bit of 'hard' sky. It will depend on whether the 'owl' is visible or hidden behind the reflection. It might need to be on the outside. Maybe a cut-out bird silhouette hanging in front of the glass for a while might help? As I type this, a six-foot python is snoozing on the table next to me. Wanna borrow it? ![]() Michael |

If I borrow the python the bird will go once the weather warms up a bit. Ok I'll cover the glass with a tarp of something similar. Then I'll put the owl back in the magnolia tree to keep the possums out, so we get some flowers in the spring. Thanks

They reckon in this video that the injured dog lived, but other youtube videos reckon it didn't make it and the rescuer ran away, never to be found.
This is a pretty good rescue. I wouldn't have attempted it myself. |

Koala survives highway ride wedged in car
13:30 AEST Wed Aug 18 2010 By Sean Cusick, ninemsn ![]() The koala stuck in the car's grill Koala's white-knuckle road trip The vehicle struck the fully grown male koala near Narrawong after leaving the town of Portland, about 360km west of Melbourne, in late March. The driver, who was travelling at about 80km/h, hit the brakes before collecting the animal with his Ford Falcon on the Princes Highway. Assuming the animal was dead, he was stunned to find the koala very much alive and wedged in the car's front grill. The shocked marsupial was trapped just under the licence plate with its front paws and head hanging out the front of the vehicle. The driver phoned Portland's after-hours veterinary service before driving 15 cautious kilometres at low speed back into town. Local veterinarian Lisia Sturm was astounded to find the animal had survived without a scratch. "It looked quite surprised — if koalas can look surprised," Dr Sturm told ninemsn. "It had its bum wedged right in there meaning it couldn't get out. "But he was a big boy and looked really healthy. He didn't have any injuries at all — not even a graze." The koala was cut from the grill with bolt cutters. It was kept under observation for the rest of the day before being released back into its prior habitat later that afternoon. Dr Sturm said the koala's amazing escape showed it was important for drivers to stop and examine an animal following an accident before seeking veterinarian treatment.

How lucky is that. I can't understand how it didn't even get a broken bone or a cut.
